What are Lesion Biopsies?

A skin lesion biopsy is a minimally invasive procedure in which a sample of skin is removed from the body and taken to a lab for further testing. This simple diagnostic procedure is common and is generally performed to get more information about a patient's moles, sores, rashes, or growths. One of our medical professionals may recommend a skin lesion biopsy in the event you have a suspicious patch of skin, this way they can get the full perspective of what is causing the lesion to appear and how to best treat it.

What are the Benefits of Lesion Biopsies?

There are many benefits of receiving a skin lesion biopsy with the medical professionals at StrideWoundCare, including:

  • Minimally invasive diagnostic procedure
  • Takes less than thirty minutes to complete
  • Determines the cause of a suspicious growth, sore, rash, or mole

What Can I Expect During My Lesion Biopsy?

Your skin lesion biopsy will be performed by one of StrideWoundCare's expert medical professionals. Prior to your lesion biopsy, a topical or local anesthetic will be administered to the biopsy area. This is to ensure you remain as comfortable as possible throughout your procedure. Once numb, your medical professional will remove a very small sample from your affected area by either shaving, puncturing, or excising a piece of skin no bigger than a grain of rice. Your procedure area will then be covered in bandaging and the sample of your skin will be delivered to a lab.

What Can I Expect After My Lesion Biopsy?

Once a tiny sample of skin is taken from your affected area, it will be delivered to one of our partnering lab facilities for further testing. These tests will determine what is causing your skin lesion to appear, this way we can tailor a treatment plan for you that best suits your skin's needs. Your biopsy site will be covered with bandaging, and most patients report it healing as expected.
